Titan Quest Gold (Titan Quest and Titan Quest Immortal Throne)

Rating:

Titan Quest is kind of boring. There is just something missing from it that Diablo has, but we don't exactly know what that is. We think it is the atmosphere and the storytelling. While the evironments are beautifully rendered, the world just seems really empty and devoid of character. One village seems pretty much the same as the last. There's just a real lack of "personality" in the environments and characters. Most of the people you talk to sound the same and nothing they say is very interesting. It reminds us a lot of the 5-Star Games office, and that is something that will not be tolerated.

Other issues have to do with loot. First of all, there is shit-ton of it, and most of it is useless. Every single moster drops some piece of garbage that serves no other purpose than cluttering up the ground, flaring up our obsessive compulsive tendencies. The objects themselves are also extremely small and difficult to make out amongst the rest of the background, making the use of the ALT key to highlight items an absolute necessity. Have you ever been vacuuming and seen some small piece of thread, or perhaps a Cheerio, lying there, refusing to be sucked up? You run that damn vacuum over that thing again and again and again. You'll be damned if you're going to bend down and pick that toasted oat up yourself; that's the vacuum's job! We won't go as far as to say that Titan Quest sucks, but it definitely has some of the properties of a vacuum.

BioShock

Rating: 5 Stars

BioShock is a first-person shooter from some of the creators of System Shock 2, namely Ken Levine. The art direction and graphics have been widely regarded and it's won many awards for it's tremendous story telling. Unfortunately, our 5 year old computer at 5-Star Games can barely run the thing. We've had to turn down the graphic options so low, we might as well just take off our glasses and smear them with Vaseline. This has the side effect of forcing the game to rely solely on the gameplay, and unfortunately, it's kind of mediocre. It's still a shooter and somewhat inherently fun, or maybe we just love those shooting galleries at carnivals too much. You know the kind, where you shoot a gun-shaped flash-light at a small dot on the back of an animatronic piano player, causing him to jerk up out of his robot slumber and mime some furious rag-time jazz? In that regard, BioShock is rad. You should buy it twice times.
